The Da Vinci Code – Realistic Fiction Or Mindless Controversy

Asking questions is a sign of an active mind and an indication of a burning desire to learn more. The curiosity to see what exactly triggers a particular thought or mind frame comes when self-awareness reaches a higher level. The Da’ Vinci Code lays the base for a flood of such questions, raised suspicions and a flurry of doubts.

Leaving behind the whole question of “Is Jesus Christ the son of God or a prophet of God?” he moves further on to question Jesus Christ’s celibacy. Not only that but he lugs in the Holy grail into the whole scenario as well. The Holy Grail being not a chalice of indescribable worth, but the blood line of Jesus Christ through his union with none other than the reformed adulteress Mary Magdalene.

I don’t mean to take down the Author. I’m actually a big fan. Don’t get me wrong. And you have to give the devil his due; it was one hot shot piece of literature, packed with action and filled with believable ideas. Heck I couldn’t put down the book myself. The correlation of renaissance paintings and beautiful architecture was amazing and he deserves applause for his marvelous effort.

His evidence may seem real and well presented, but not enough to sway one’s belief. Neither is it a cause for contestation, concern or a backlash of fury. It is important to realize that modern literature is not only meant to be informative and entertaining but also to grasp attention. You will have to admit the author did a pretty good job at that.

But readers should not forget that, it is a book, a story, a piece of literature, and that is all. A piece of literature should not make you question your faith or beliefs. It is fiction in the most simplistic form – nothing more.

The motive behind it you ask? In one of his interviews, Dan Brown reiterated that he did not mean to raise doubts as it was meant to be fiction and nothing more. However the deed was already done. The point is raising questions is one thing, fueling doubts or creating controversies is another. It is up to the reader to recognize the difference.
