Bipasha’s ALONE better than original 2007 Thai Horror Film

Starring:

  • Bipasha Basu (Sanjana / Anjana)
  • Karan Singh Grover (Kabir)

The Context

Ever heard of being joined at the hip? Well this is exactly the case with the lead character in ‘Alone’. Two sisters, who are conjoined from birth, see no reason to be separated until they are almost 20. The only valid reason for the separation is none other than the love interest (Karan Singh Grover).

He is the cause for jealousy between Sanjana (the hot one) and Anjana (the dowdy one). Predictably he falls for the very identical yet un-dowdy twin, Sanjana. The two fall desperately in love while Anjana harbors a secretly strong crush on Kabir and an equally strong grudge for her sister Sanjana.

Sanjana eventually takes the decision for an operation and the two twins are surgically separated. However Anjana does not survive the procedure. Heartbroken and traumatized with memories, Sanjana marries Kabir and leaves Kerala and her mother to set up her life in Mumbai.

The Trigger

An accident leaves the mother paralyzed and brings Sanjana back to Kerala, along with a tidal wave of memories and the rising of an evil apparition who Sanjana says is Anjana’s spirit. Kabir does not believe her and eventually Sanjana falls prey to the ghost and is possessed.

Twist No. 01

During an exorcism the plot twist emerges, that Sanjana apparently killed her sister by accident when Anjana tried to strangle and kill her to prevent her from seeing Kabir. Sanjana hits Anjana over the head with a musical figurine, killing her instantly. The mother covers up the incident and has the operation done and has everything hushed up including hiding of the body. The spirit leaves Sanjana’s body and is running rampant through the house and eventually possesses an acquaintance of Kabir’s – a Professor who had specialized in Spiritual Healing.

Twist No. 02

On one encounter with the now possessed professor it is revealed that in order to kill the spirit an object binding the spirit to its earthly subject needs to be burned. The object thought to be the musical figurine seems to be indestructible. However, the body is found under the wooden floor boards during the search.

Prepare yourself. The body found is not that of Anjana’s but Sanjana’s. Anjana killed her in a fit of rage and pretended to be her for the rest of her life marrying Kabir. Anjana’s shows her psychotic self completely obsessed with Kabir in a “if you won’t be mine, you won’t be anyone’s” kinda way and yadda yadda yadda trying to kill him while the ghost of Sanjana all pretty now comes to the rescue.

Unhappy conclusion (no loopholes left for a sequel folks)

Anjana dies in the fire set in the outhouse in order to burn the body and Kabir ends up, unhappily alone yet sad and relieved all at the same time.
